Former President Donald Trump’s eldest granddaughter, Kai Trump, took the stage at the Republican National Convention (RNC) on Wednesday night to deliver a heartfelt and personal testament about her grandfather.

A Personal Side of Donald Trump

Kai Trump’s speech provided a rare glimpse into the former president’s family life. "I'm speaking today to share the side of my grandpa that people don't often see," she said. "To me, he's just a normal grandpa. He gives us candy and soda when our parents aren't looking. He always wants to know how we're doing in school."

Throughout her speech, Donald Trump beamed with pride. This appearance joins a growing list of individuals, predominantly women, who have portrayed a more personal side of the former president. Kai shared, "Even when he's going through all these court cases, he always asks me how I'm doing. He always encourages me to push myself to be the most successful person I can be. Obviously, he sets the bar pretty high, but who knows, maybe one day I'll catch him."

This moment marked a significant first for the next generation of Trumps.

An Introduction by Donald Trump Jr.

Introduced by her father, Donald Trump Jr., Kai was recognized for making her debut speech. He highlighted that it was her "first time ever on a stage" and her "first time ever giving a speech."

Who is Kai Trump?

Kai is the eldest daughter of Donald Trump Jr. and Vanessa Trump. At 17, she is an avid golfer and recently shared a photo on Instagram celebrating a tournament win at the Trump International Palm Beach golf course with her grandfather.

She also showed her support for Donald Trump following an assassination attempt on him, posting a photo of a bloodied Trump raising his fist with the caption: “We love you Grandpa. Never stop fighting!”

The Trump Family at the RNC

Three of Donald Trump’s five children — Donald Jr., Tiffany, and Eric — have made appearances at the 2024 RNC. Eric’s wife, Lara, who is the co-chair of the RNC this year, gave the keynote speech on Tuesday night. Don Jr.'s fiancĂ©e, Kimberly Guilfoyle, is expected to speak, and Vanessa Trump was seen supporting her daughter, Kai, at the event.

Ivanka and Jared Kushner

Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner, both senior advisers during Trump’s presidency, have not appeared at the RNC. In 2022, Ivanka announced her departure from politics on social media, stating, “I do not plan to be involved in politics. While I will always love and support my father, going forward I will do so outside the political arena.”

Melania and Barron Trump

Donald Trump has been married to Melania Trump since 2005. She has also been absent from his current presidential campaign. Her office released a statement in May explaining that Barron, their son, would not be a delegate due to “prior commitments.” Barron was seen supporting his father at a campaign rally in Miami last week.

In an interview with CBS, Eric Trump mentioned that both Ivanka and Melania "will be coming in," possibly when Donald Trump formally accepts the GOP nomination on Thursday night.
